Disappointed but not discouraged
I got dis-invited to the Democratic National Convention. The threat of severe thunderstorms, forced organizers to move the venue today from Bank of America Stadium to Time Warner Cable Arena. Sixty Five Thousand of us didn’t get to volunteer and or attend the final day of the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, NC. When I got the news yesterday, I was lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut.
Getting ready for the Democratic National Convention
On Saturday, I drove to Charlotte, North Carolina to participate in mandatory training as a volunteer at this week’s Democratic National Convention. Organizers with the help of volunteer trainers briefed 2,400 volunteers of all ages over three days time. I had the chance to review the volunteer force while standing under a tent outside Bank of America Stadium and I commented aloud that there were more black people under this small tent than had participated in or attended the Republican National Convention. The volunteers were all ages, colors and kinds of people and in that diversity they resembled America. The volunteers including myself were attentive, cooperative and excited to participate in this historical political event. The camaraderie I felt in that group was immediate and effortless.
Summer Road Trip
I recently returned from a 2,000 mile road trip with my 85 year old Dad and my 83 year old Mom. Leona and Dallas and I visited friends and family in three states, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. It was like a trip through time and it was very strange to hear everyone talking in a mid-western accent. I came home profoundly grateful to be married to the man I’m married to, live in the house and community we live in and most of all overcome with gratitude to have such cool parents that I can spend time with.
