What a difference a day makes

Death has a way of changing your perspective. I learned this last week, after attending the funeral of a neighbor, the 18 year old graduating senior was killed in a car crash. My son had once been hired to babysit for the young man and his older brother. His death was tragic, sudden and heart breaking for every parent who’s ever handed over the car keys to their child and laid awake until they heard their key in the door. Sitting in the pew at the funeral service beside my son, I felt the pain and grief of everyone in that church wash over me like a river.

The next evening driving home from a meeting, I came upon the scene of an accident my son had been involved in, his car was totaled but no one was hurt. He didn’t have full coverage but he’s alive. I didn’t even care about the car, just relieved he was okay. What a difference a day makes in my attitude and my perspective.
